Abstract
In the last few years, groups in Peru, Brazil, Nicaragua and Haiti, have led the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region in working with open source health information technology solutions in extremely resource-limited settings to improve patient care, human resource management, and local public health research capacity. The project aimed to assess and organize the specific needs of LAC countries in order to advance an eHealth strategy, and to generate findings about the current situation while strengthening collaboration with related organizations. Recommendations are made for a national strategy that takes into account how human resources, infrastructure, and each country’s laws interact.
