Abstract

Econometric analysis reveals that education level, age and gender of the household head, family size, land holding size, and access to information influence household decisions to employ climate change adaptation strategies. The study also identified some of the most commonly used: soil conservation and management, fertilizer application, off-farm work, crop diversification, agro-forestry and use of improved seeds. Based on the findings, policies that encourage participation of farmers and farmers’ organizations are required, such as increasing access to credit facilities, providing alternate sources of income, access to crop insurance schemes, and improving agricultural extension in view of climate change.
