Abstract
"Development" can be viewed as nothing but the general transformation of the natural environment and social relations into commodities (goods and labour) – their transformation and often their destruction, in order to foster economic growth. At this period in the history of economic and social development, there is agreement that programs intended to boost economic growth might at the end of the day hasten the onset of other crises. This journal issue looks at soci-economic constructs, case studies, built-in asymmetries of power, the influence of the state, and other aspects of “sustainable development”. In English and French.
