Improving food safety in Asia through increased capacity in ecohealth

Abstract

Where a single major public health concern such as food safety is the charge of numerous agencies, ministries, academic institutions, and industry representations, research suggests there’s a role for ecohealth in improving food safety. Interest has increased in transdisciplinary approaches for addressing the precipitating factors of emerging infectious and zoonotic diseases. Based on the framework of one of several initiatives in the region, the Building Ecohealth Capacity in Asia (BECA) project, for an ecohealth approach to be of value, it is essential to recognize the importance of engaging stakeholders with the policy process and wide representation from community members.
