Abstract:
Research leading to accessible public education and responsive community-based programs is necessary to help address significant water governance challenges. As in Mozambique, South Africa’s watershed committees or “catchment management agencies” (CMAs) act to decentralize decision-making and create a framework for integrating the needs of all stakeholders in water governance. The project works in three cities: Durban, Nairobi, and Maputo, to characterize institutional frameworks for urban water governance, and delineates how the different actors cope with climate change and variability. The report summarizes and compares information on climate change and water governance in the three cities, as well as outputs, activities and outcomes of the research.
