Abstract
The study was undertaken to explore which of five anthropometric indices for assessment of undernutrition (weight for age, height for age, wasting, body mass index (BMI) for age, and wasting and stunting with low BMI) is associated with more consistent and higher risk of morbidity due to infection. Relative risk of morbidity due to any infection is
higher in children with current energy deficiency (poor nutrition) manifested as wasting, low BMI or stunting in Indian preschool children, as compared to weight for age.
