Muslim youth helpline
Abstract
While some two-thirds of Indians live in villages, this percentage is inverted for Indian Muslims, with most living in urban and semi-urban areas; the highest Muslim percentage is in the city of Hyderabad (40%). A participatory study with urban Muslim youth in Hyderabad established that while they have access to education (often poor quality), they lack guidance, institutional access, and access to social networks. In addition to the services provided the by a call centre, the Muslim Youth Helpline could provide location-based outreach services in co-ordination with other institutions and non-governmental organizations.
