Abstract

The non-recognition of women’s role in livestock production has led to failure of many livestock development projects in pastoralist communities. The study works to understand how best to secure rights of women in pastoralist and forest-dwelling communities to land and land-based resources. Women’s experiences are transcribed in their own words, and provide a window into their realities as young wives and then as part of polygamous households. This is a detailed examination of women and land tenure. In Uganda political participation of minority groups remains limited and their social and economic rights are ignored. Women are often excluded from participation in any public space due to gender discrimination and low literacy levels.
