Abstract

The Declaration builds upon the ‘African Local Government Declaration on Climate Change’ that emerged from the African pre-Copenhagen Local Government Climate Roadmap Summit, 29-31 July 2009 in Tshwane, South Africa, as convened by ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability – Africa. The document is written as a formal statement and commitment, calling on the UFCCC to deliver an equitable and comprehensive MRV (Measurable, Reportable and Verifiable) global climate framework deal on the occasion of the UNFCCC COP17. ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is a global network working with more than 2,500 local and regional governments committed to sustainable urban development.
