Abstract:
Through its evaluation unit, the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is conducting a study on how to evaluate research excellence, particularly of applied interdisciplinary research for development. This brief draws on a literature review conducted as part of the study to present the main debates in research evaluation: questions around impact, peer review processes, metrics as indicators of excellence, and criteria that should be used in the evaluation of research excellence.
