Abstract
The objective was to improve agricultural productivity and increase rural income and
food security through agro-based natural resources in the highlands of Eastern Africa, while also scaling up integrated natural resources management innovations with particular focus in Ethiopia and Uganda. Review of project outputs and outcomes was followed by three weeks of field visits to Ethiopia and Uganda. There was a critical gap in the development and facilitation of innovation platforms (IPs), particularly from the research institutes perspective. Country teams lack prior experience in formation and facilitation of IPs and did not receive support from the regional African Highlands Initiative team.
