Abstract

The paper explores the prolonged conflicts between the two countries. Displaced Karen people from Burma have been entangled in the complex web of Burma’s political situation and the Thai nation-state’s policies on border security. More than 20 subgroups of this ethnic people have been inhabiting the areas later known as Burma and Thailand long before the creation of the two nation-states. The paper draws from personal stories volunteered by refugees tormented by atrocities and violence on the border lands.
