Abstract
This report summarizes the main accomplishments of the project 90-1031, Multilayer
Polyethylene Film/Phase II. The main objectives of the project, a joint research with
McGill University, are producing in Jordan on a laboratory scale, a new multilayer
greenhouse film incorporating degraded and weathered films; investigating the outdoors
performance of multilayer films in comparison with traditional monolayer virgin films,
investigate the feasibility of the new technology and introduce the new technology to
potential manufacturers and interested parts in Jordan. A two-layer film blowing line
has been purchased and installed at the Plastics Research Laboratory of RSS. A series
of experimental trials have been conducted under controlled processing conditions
using the optimum blend formulations. The films have been evaluated indoors and
outdoors. A market and feasibility study on the developed technology has been carried
out and finally the know-how developed during this project has been shared with
potential plastic convertors and other interested institutions through a demonstration
workshop.
