Abstract
The project supports African researchers and research organizations to produce rigorous and analytical social science research findings on how the purposes and functions of traditional radio in Africa are influenced by new ICTs. Radio is increasing its reach and interactivity as a result of changes in the regulatory environment, the growth of citizen journalism, and convergence between radio and other information and communication technologies (ICTs), notably mobile phones and the Internet. The new technologies are enhancing radio but not displacing it as originally predicted.
