Abstract
The market for new knowledge that academic research can generate is already well established. Many policy circles are moving towards an evidence-based approach. Basic research and development and evaluation of ICT4D programmes have the potential to provide a solid base of evidence for investment in innovative programmes. However, academic research is littered with challenges in collaboration that include differing incentives, goals and processes. The book investigates some bridges that can link research to policy and practice. A fundamental re-orientation towards policy engagement rather than academic achievement is a massive challenge.
