Abstract

The objective is to carry out an analytical review of postharvest losses (PHLs) and postharvest (PH) innovations related to food and income security; to produce guidelines for systematic assessment of PHLs along value chains; and to generate action plans for PHL research and PH innovations. The project inception workshop held at African Insect Science for Food and Health (icipe) Nairobi brought together consultants, selected experts and a representative of IDRC who shared experiences of PHLs in the project’s targeted countries while creating understanding about ownership and motives of the project. Roles of consultants and the terms of reference were elaborated.
