Abstract

The study documents the view of residents of the Municipality of Phnom Penh (MPP) in relation to urban tree development. Current conditions are poor, with low tree density, inappropriate species, and lack of protection and proper maintenance. Outcomes from this study suggest some policy implications: (i) urban tree improvement can be supported by raising funds from residents (ii) a master plan for urban trees needs to be developed for implementation (iii) the management plan requires inputs from both humanities and science disciplines. Human resources for the development and management of an urban tree programme is most important.
