Abstract

Global Information Society Watch (GISWATCH 2011) is the fifth in a series of yearly reports that critique the state of the information society from the perspectives of civil society organisations across the world. Through the lens of freedom of expression, and freedom of association and democracy, thematic reports in this book go to the heart of the debates that will shape the future of the internet and its impact on human rights. Many of these issues are pulled sharply into focus at the country level in the 56 country reports that follow the thematic considerations.
