Abstract
What is increasingly clear is the connection between social inequality and poverty, and between poverty and policies that are deemed or have been shown to increase social inequality. In a recent report, the United Nations Development Programme (UNPD) argues there is a direct correlation between structural social inequalities, and the policies that bring about these inequalities, and poverty. Another conclusion is that a major agency in the fight against global poverty is good government, acting with ‘international cooperation’ and ‘social participation’. This poverty report sheds light on continuing issues.
