Abstract

Chief Kim Baird is the first aboriginal person from Canada to have joined these official government level meetings, and to consider themes and issues from an aboriginal perspective, including Canadian and British Columbia regulatory frameworks for project consultation and engagement with First Nations. The trip provided opportunities for him to meet with some of Ecuador’s Indigenous organizations and Canadian mining companies, as well as getting to know more about Canada’s strategic interests in Quito. The presentation details meetings, briefings, and lessons learned.
