Abstract

The report presents findings on the political, environmental and economic factors that impact and regulate decision making around the introduction of biotechnology and the regulation of transgenic crops. The level of uncertainty surrounding the release of Bt Cotton (biotech, genetically modified, pest resistant cotton variety) in India has served to catalyze and motivate speculation and action on the part of a wide variety of stakeholders including private sector firms, civil society organizations (CSOs), and farmers themselves.
