Abstract
The IDRC’s Innovation, Policy and Science (IPS) programme recognizes that Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and the ways in these instruments are managed can significantly influence innovation and performance at firm and national levels. The workshop aims to shed light on how local patent systems in Africa and other developing countries can find opportunities to leverage access to knowledge from patents. This paper is a brief introduction to the workshop by the Senior IPS program officer.
