Abstract

The 2nd McGill Conference on Global Food Security examined the effects of the worldwide financial crisis (2008) on global food security. It identified investment priorities for the agricultural sector including critical areas for research and capacity building. As well, the conference evaluated the effects of markets and trade, biofuel production and climate change on current and future world food production and the environment. Rapidly rising food and fuel prices in 2007 and 2008 followed by the economic crisis in the fall of 2008 worsened food security in developing countries and threatened economic and political stability in countries around the world.
