Abstract

This paper investigates the informal information and communication technology (ICT) sector in Senegal, towards the development of indicators for improving understanding of the innovation process. This paper contributes to the understanding of innovation-driven economic growth, and to the factors linked to transition of economic activity from one sector to another. For more than two decades, the informal sector’s contribution to GDP has exceeded that of the modern sector, and a significant proportion of the population currently lives on “odd jobs” and casual work.
