Abstract

Free software enables business development, as it improves availability and dissemination of code. Ninety-five percent (95%) of IT revenues are generated by providing services around software; only 5% of revenue is generated through proprietary software usage license fees. Free and open source software uses a well-defined licensing model. This presentation responds to some “common myths” about open code, describes the software development process, and the Open Source Geospatial (OSGEO) community.
