Abstract
The presentation provides the context of land ownership in Mozambique in terms of state ownership and women’s access to the land for agricultural purposes. The project analyzes how women respond to and negotiate access and control of land in relation to Customary and Statutory Laws. Findings reveal that land use is shifting from subsistence farming to commercial agriculture (land grabbing) and urban development. State investment is in monoculture for exports. Subsistence agriculture is undermined, leading to food insecurity.
