Abstract
This article analyzes the principal characteristics of the recent flow of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Brazil, and highlights the role that Canadian investment has within this process. FDI and the dominant role of transnational corporations are factors of the Brazilian industrialization process. In terms of Canadian investments, the areas of oil, gas and mining are those that traditionally make up the largest part of the FDI stock abroad (around 15%). The information and communication technology sector is also important in terms of Canadian FDI.
