Abstract

Traditional forms of regulating access to fishing grounds have broken down with the arrival of highly mobile vessels, and little state support for a marketing infrastructure that would welcome the small-scale operator. The Asian Fisheries Social Science Research Network (AFSSRN or the Network) was formed to increase and build capacity towards long-term social science research capacity in Southeast Asian institutions in fisheries and aquaculture. This bulletin reviews progress and achievements.
