Abstract
This in-depth report describes the work of Research for International Tobacco Control (RITC) for the period 2005 – 2010. It reviews research findings, outcomes, and lessons learned. Four programmatic outcomes are elaborated upon: 1) New Frontiers: RITC was a pioneer in neglected areas of research; 2) Regional Strength: RITC strengthened the development of regional capacity for collaboration; 3) Expanding Policy Capacities: RITC has broadened the capacity for policy influence; 4) Global Influence: RITC has had broad policy influence at the global level. The adoption of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) caused a dramatic increase in research activity.
