Item Nettoyer le bassin du fleuve Dniepr, en Ukraine : les économies des pays en développement gagnent en importance(Section de l'évaluation, CRDI, Ottawa, ON, CA, 2002) Stanley, BobItem Cleaning up the Dnipro River Basin in Ukraine(Evaluation Unit, IDRC, Ottawa, ON, CA, 2002) Stanley, BobUkraine was the most environmentally degraded of the former USSR republics. Six components to the Environmental Management Development in Ukraine (EMDU) program which continued 1994-2001 are: Water pollution control; Water toxicology; Information systems development; Pilot projects ranging from drinking water treatment technology to groundwater protection and shoreline rehabilitation; Environmental audits and entrepreneurship including both large and small industries; Public outreach and raising public awareness of environmental issues. An effect and a legacy of the projects funded through the IDRC program is the revival of institutions that were failing due to lack of government support. Item Making the most of scarce resources : wastewater recovery and urban farming in the Middle East(Evaluation Unit, IDRC, Ottawa, ON, CA, 2003) Kavanagh, PatrickPopulation growth, rapid urbanization, and the shortage of water have led to rising food insecurity in the Middle East and North Africa. People in the region address this complex of problems by encouraging urban agriculture and by using recycled water to feed it. In Jordan and other countries, city farms are irrigated with “greywater” drawn from showers, bathrooms, and sinks. This innovative response, supported by IDRC, has had a wide-ranging influence on public policy.Item Research influence on policy : the greywater reuse case of Jordan; final report(2003) IDRC.
