Abstract

The objectives of the research were to stimulate African-based research on issues of sexuality and gender and to support current African research initiatives through offering opportunities to develop conceptual and methodological tools for African feminist writers and researchers. The report contains Appendices outlining research, and a book proposal arising out of research. Nine chapters, authored by African-based researchers, reflect on experiences with methodologies as they are applied in research projects in the areas of HIV/AIDS, transactional sex in cross-border situations, teenage pregnancy, and others. A sample chapter is included: “An Opportunity for Knowing”: Researching the Sexual Politics of Zina in Northern Nigeria.
