Abstract
GISWatch aims to help overcome disparities in access to ICTs by advocating for human rights, and promoting education and public access to information, women’s empowerment, and economic prosperity. It surveys information and communications technology (ICT) policy at the local and global levels. The theme for GISWatch 2009 is access to online information and knowledge – advancing human rights and democracy. Forty-eight single country reports include: analysis of policy and legislative environments; access to information and to online information provided by the government; new trends; and next steps. An innovative section on visual mapping of global rights and political crises is provided.
