Abstract

The aim was to assess the economic cost of environmental burdens in each of the Focus City projects: Colombo (Sri Lanka), Dakar (Senegal), Jakarta (Indonesia), Kampala (Uganda), and Moreno (Argentina). These costs provide input into the cost-benefit analysis of Phase II, with the avoidance of those costs treated as an economic benefit due to project interventions. Each intervention is assessed “as if” it was undertaken by the residents of the host country. Analyses of these selected interventions serve as capacity building that can demonstrate the uses of social cost-benefit analysis, including its role in influencing policy decisions.
