Abstract
The project worked to develop a common framework and a prototype union catalogue that provides for the national repository of bibliographical records in libraries in India. It also aimed towards prototyping a web-based search engine to locate the content held in electronic formats, allowing for full-text search in multiple languages of digital resources held in thousands of libraries. A union catalog is a combined library catalog describing the collections of a number of libraries. Union catalogs have been created in a range of media, including book format, microform, cards and more recently, networked electronic databases.
