Abstract
Tobacco Production is labour intensive, leading to use of children for cheap labour, meanwhile denying them opportunity to pursue basic education. The industry has been active in political lobbying that has slowed down Tobacco Control efforts, and has been very aggressive in marketing their products especially to youth. The Kenya Tobacco Situational Analysis (KTSA team) targeted two project priorities: enforcement of smoke free legislation, and monitoring the ban on advertising, promotion and sponsorship. This report outlines research activities of the project. A follow-up survey was undertaken and recommendations are drawn from these findings regarding sustaining the momentum in implementation of smoke-free laws.
