Abstract
Results of the research suggest that after implementation of the management information system (MIS) Mifos, there was an overall increase in service quality of the microfinance institutions (MFIs), increased quality of information provided to clients, and higher client satisfaction. The objective of MFIs is to give poor people in developing and emerging countries access to financial services to escape from poverty through creating their own living. Where off-the-shelf banking software often does not meet the unique requirements of MFIs, a possible answer to specific, low budget ICT needs could be an open source MIS designed for use by MFIs.
