Abstract

This volume provides information on and analyses of e-governance at the municipal and the local level in Africa. Specific country cases deal with a range of issues, and represent a common research effort to highlight improvements in governance following the application of ICTs. Africa has seen a persistent crisis of governance where the twin problems of despotism and corruption have not been eradicated, creating a context for human rights violations. ICTs have opened a new e-governance space with huge potential for improving participation of citizens in local and central government structures.
