Abstract

This manual is based on findings of a research development project in stone crushing sites in Northern India (Bundelkhand). There are an estimated 12,000 stone crushing units employing 500,000 workers in India (and several millions in all of Asia). Major concerns in stone crushing are accidents and injuries, hearing loss, and dust-related lung diseases. All of these diseases can be prevented, and the working conditions improved with simple means and minimal cost. This manual provides information and guidance to improve working conditions and safety for owners, workers, governmental and non-governmental institutions, trade unions and interested persons.
