dc.description.abstract The book compares and analyzes the biotechnology system of innovation in Africa and Asia. Five countries are the focus: Malaysia, Vietnam, Nigeria, Tanzania and Kenya. Working from a sectoral innovation systems approach as it applies to late development, detailed background reports on the state of innovation in all five countries were assembled. Over six hundred questionnaires were administered in the five countries to firms, universities, public research institutes, governmental agencies and biotechnology service providers such as hospitals. The report details findings, outcomes and outputs of the project. The role of policy in sectoral performance is also examined. en
