Executive sintesis : project "Long term management of the risk factors shaping the re-infestation of Triatoma dimidata"
Abstract
The project focuses on a holistic approach for disease vector control based on the risk factors that promote house re-infestation by Triatomine bugs. Two interventions involve changing dirt floors to cement-type flooring, and removing animals from inside households by building chicken coops and small out buildings for animals. Households that did not improve their properties became a focus of infestation. This report describes improvements to housing through plaster board, dirt floor substitution, and constructing outbuildings for animals. Wall plaster technologies are based on traditional community building practices. Floor substitution is comparatively very difficult as it is non-traditional and there are few resources.
