Abstract
National Transfer Accounts can reveal the age dimension of an economy, showing how populations produce, consume, save, and share resources by age group. This one-page policy brief provides an overview of country strategies that can help mitigate the effects of demographic groups where there are large proportions of children or an ageing population. Policy options could include increasing the mandatory retirement age, varying pension benefits, and improving flexibility for employers in hiring part-time workers. National economies can continue to grow and social programs can be sustained where better child health and education programmes lead to higher incomes.
