Abstract

This report aims to investigate factors associated with smoking among youth living in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt). Along with more usual health and societal factors, the study investigates the relationship between smoking and exposure to Israeli army and other types of violence, and youth resilience. Half of the respondents were directly exposed to Israeli violence, while 97% witnessed Israeli violence. Students were also highly exposed to other types of violence: close to half were beaten by school personnel, 41% were beaten by parents, 16% were beaten by their siblings, and around 35% were beaten by other students.
