Abstract
Overall, the sex ratio at birth (SRB) in India has increased minimally in the last 15 years from 1.06 to 1.08. Reported son preference declined across the country, in rural and urban areas, and in all states, between 1992-93 and 2005-06. This fact sheet is prepared as part of the Counting Girls project. It suggests some reasons for a noticeable decline in certain areas in the south of India.
