Abstract
The report outlines capacity building activities, outputs and outcomes of the project, which nurtured the development of national research and education networks (NRENs) throughout Africa. At the same time, the project raised awareness of key policy decision makers about the importance of NRENs. Discussion of issues related to connectivity, access to bandwidth, ICT policy and capacity building were facilitated by the research and education networking (REN) unit platform for collaboration. The REN unit activities in the field of advocacy, policy development, capacity building and publishing catalyzed the REN process in institutes of higher education in Africa.
