Rural BPO through telecenters
Abstract
Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) as a business model has stimulated IT establishments in Asia attracting several corporations in the North as their prime clients, thus turning a part of their business into service provision. This study looks at the power of shared computing (telecentres) with BPO opportunities, and identifies critical factors for establishing rural BPO work as skills-based employment for rural youth. It provides a viability evaluation model developed for assessing the sustainability of a location, coupled with possible rural BPO business models and the type of rural BPO activities that can be taken up involving telecentres.
