Abstract
Powerful first-hand accounts and illustrated stories from displaced women feature in this working paper. “Salt, sand and water” is about identity and identifications; about crisscrossing patterns of lives that have brought women and families to Puttalam by decree and by choice. The writings presented here (“this place/displace: woe, weapon and (the) movement”) are a tribute to survival, and all those who helped support these long and difficult journeys. Puttalam is the administrative capital of the Puttalam District, Sri Lanka.
