Abstract
The purpose of the research was to study the legislative field referring to the Article
13 of the Framework Convention of Tobacco Control on Tobacco advertising, promotion
and sponsorship in Armenia; and taking into consideration the international experience
to develop recommendations towards the improvement of the Tobacco Control legislation
in accordance with the requirements of the mentioned article.
It includes general information on tobacco use; current situation and legislation
on tobacco control; general results of the media clipping; the general results of the
survey implemented to evaluate the level of awareness and willingness of the
respondents on the legislation of the Republic of Armenia prohibiting the tobacco
advertisement, the attitude of the respondents towards reforms and improvements of the
legislation directed to the overall prohibition of the tobacco advertisement; as well as
samples of leading international experience in 2005-2006.
Examples of progressive experience of international legislation are presented based
on the studies and observations, taking into account the needed steps directed to the
tobacco control legislation improvement and effective execution of accepted laws.
The final part of the brochure is devoted to the recommendations directed to the
improvement of tobacco control legislation and to the comprehensive measures on
advertising, promotion and sponsorship which would reduce the consumption of tobacco
products.
The publication is anticipated for the policy makers including high level officials,
Members of National Assembly (MPs), and implementers as well as civil society.
