Abstract
The meeting aimed to draft a regional research agenda for tobacco control in order to foster strong and effective public policies in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). LAC is beginning the process of controlling the tobacco epidemic. Many LAC countries still allow tobacco advertising; tobacco taxes and prices are low; health warning labels are weak, and 100% smoke free environments are scarce. To reduce the gap between research and policy, the second regional workshop advocates for technological quality of research projects, financial and technical cooperation between North and South, including capacity building in research, as well as enhanced networks within the tobacco control advocacy community.
