Abstract
The research aim is to learn from the experience of those in resistance or liberation movements who have used violence in their struggle and have also engaged politically during the conflict as well as in peace processes, and to learn how “non-state armed groups” contribute to this transformation towards peacemaking. Demobilised M-19 guerrillas in Colombia who signed peace agreements, went on to play an important role in the formation of the Alternative Democratic Pole (Polo Democrático Alternativo) amalgamation of left-wing democratic sectors in the country.
