Abstract
The paper describes the status of university research governance and programmes at the University of Buea in Cameroon. Programming is limited due to constraints of funding; the necessity of construction and equipment of new laboratories; equipment and materials provision for the University library; organization of field work and supervision of collection of data; training in research methodologies including ethics and; processes for the dissemination of results. University authorities are determined to increase the budget for research from 6 % to 15% of the university budget by 2015.
